9 years... that's how long it took.
9 years of blood, sweat, and so many tears.
9 years to learn to start loving ALL the parts of myself. 9 long AF years it took me to change my perspective. It began with small changes. I made incremental changes to my daily habits.
I changed my fitness habits, eating habits, and I decided to take up yoga. Hot yoga to be exact, but really ANY yoga would suffice.
I didn’t go every day at first. I went twice a week. I didn’t even see results at first, but I felt them. It wasn’t a great big miraculous event or a huge rush of emotions, things just started improving. In fact, everything started improving. My stiff joints began moving easier, I slept better, my skin began clearing up, my feet didn’t hurt as much, I was kinder (to everyone) including myself, I was more patient, less responsive and lastly my weight began to drop. So much so, that everyone around me thought something was wrong. Alas, nothing was wrong, everything was so right. I couldn’t explain it, but it was written all over me. For the first time in my life, I felt at ease. I felt at home. I finally loved working out, I finally loved myself. I woke up on those days that I had booked a yoga class bolting out of bed, dropping my kids at school early and rushing over to get into that studio. My love for yoga grew and I began to practice daily, on my own if I couldn’t get to class and eventually, I became a full-blown obsessed Yogi! Today I am Stronger. Braver. Fierce!
